One-on-One with Witch Prophet

Back in 2015, we partnered up with the great Toronto radio host/encyclopedia of music/maker of a mean lasagna (from what I hear), Luca Capone and hosted some episodes of his weekly radio program the Night Shift. We recently reached out to Luca to see if he would be interested in teaming up with us again and he was! So keep your eyes and ears open for more great content from Luca.

Tune into The Night Shift every Wednesday from 9-11 PM on CJRU 1280 AM.

Follow Luca on Twitter and/or Facebook to keep up to date with all things The Night Shift.

On this episode of the Night Shift, I welcomed back the cosmic wanderer, Witch Prophet, along with fantastic DJ SunSun! Witch Prophet’s long awaited new album, The Golden Octave, is out TODAY, and so, we talked about the restless deep house meets psych-folk meets hypnotic trip-hop sonic environment of the album, lyrical themes of love and lightning, uncertainty over the future, CIA mind-control and the Matrix, some of the amazing producers behind this album such as Old Smile, OC Notes, Sikh Knowledge (and of course, DJ SunSun), the Ethiopian/Eritrean soundscapes of her next release, a chance meeting with a legendary Canadian jazz-folk fusion musician at a potentially haunted Guelph B&B, embracing Witch Prophet’s trance-like, spell-casting spoken-word singing style, which 90’s heartthrob makes for the best/worst secret DJ name, the challenges of curating more diverse, inclusive spaces while dissecting the problems and offering solutions for some of Toronto’s major inner-city music festivals, & OTHER INTERESTING TALES FOR LOVERS OF MUSIC AND THIS CRAZY CITY
