WROTE’s Erin Muir does something very brave on “Not Afraid,” the debut single from the St John, New Brunswick band’s debut album Each Other’s Skins. She tells us that she’s not going to be afraid anymore. On the murky pop track, Muir battles with herself in an attempt to live her best life despite her anxieties.
“The song is sort of an emblem of my insecurities about being an incredibly sensitive person,” says Muir. “This song was really me trying to work out why I feel everything so strongly and how it affects my self worth. It’s quite heavy stuff for a pop song, but the arrangement has given it a bit more of a joyful, determined tone. Its transformed a lot since its inception, from a piece rooted in self-doubt to somewhat of an anthem.”
Each Other’s Skins will be released in April via a new East Coast label, Milk of Urge. For now, you can stream “Not Afraid” below.
