Last we checked in with three-piece Nikki Fierce, they were disturbing the hell out of us with a truth-bomb video. On January 26, the Toronto rock band will release their debut EP, Man Made Woman, recorded with Josh Korody (Beliefs/Dilly Dally/Vallens).
To whet your appetite for the EP, Nikki Fierce present the gritty “My Shadow.” Its jagged guitars and groovy bass, along with its scary lyrics, make the song sound pretty dark—that’s no accident. As the band explains to us:
My Shadow’s lyrics are about overcoming emotional trauma, specifically trauma inflicted from a situation of domestic abuse. The song lyrics illustrate the healing process and the acceptance of your inner struggles, as well as the importance of realizing that pain is something that passes. The song’s mantra is, “And I feel fine” which puts an emphasis on the healing that can occur after suffering.
Nikki Fierce will celebrate the release of their new EP on Jan. 26 at the Smiling Buddha in Toronto, alongside Bike Thiefs, Jiants and Smooches.
