Premiere: Nikki Fierce – “Beautiful Heart”

What kind of pressures do women face on a daily basis? And who decides what beauty is, anyway? Toronto three-piece Nikki Fierce explore those concepts with their simple yet thoroughly unsettling new video for “Beautiful Heart,” which Grayowl Point is happy to premiere.

Among the bass groove and propulsive guitar of the song, which acknowledges the constant unfairness women face on a daily basis, the accompanying video—directed by Mashie Alam—provides some dark visuals. At first the three band members stare into the camera, and before long hands are “prettying them up.” At first it’s makeup, but soon the makeup goes out of control. Before you even realize what’s happening, their faces are being turned into food-stuffed mountains of garbage. It’s disturbing to watch, but hey, it’s a pretty great metaphor for what women have to face every single goddamned day.
