The moniker for Halifax via Guelph musician Daniel Walker – Owen Meany’s Batting Stance – might be our favourite band name of 2016. But in the pop-punk tinged “Dissonance,” the first song from Owen Meany’s Batting Stance’s debut EP out September 16, Walker shows us that he has strength beyond his band name.

Rest assured, Walker does not have THE VOICE of Owen Meany. Where John Irving’s character has a shrill, high-pitched instrument, Walker’s is conversational and wry. He quickly spits out verses packed with lyrics about nostalgia, heartbreak, and regrets over top of the folky, pop-punk sounds of your youth. Nothing dissonant here.
