Audible Hoots: Illitry

goshenIt’s a first single, and it’s therefore also a statement. This is what one can expect from Hamilton-based electro-pop outfit Illitry.

This first single is called “Goshen.” There are many layers to this three-minute-long song—the Ben Gibbard-esque vocals, the warm synthesizers, the at-times furious percussion, and the chorus of backup vocals.

And then there’s the lyrics. One can’t get much more depressing than this set: “Our blades grew numb/As our numbers fell in the silence/Beneath the winter.” The phrase “You’re mine” is repeated, but the ambiguity of the statement is tantalizing. Is the character talking about the forest creatures referenced in the first line? Or is “You’re mine” referring to a loved one?

Either way, this first track shows that there should plenty to expect from this group in the future. Stream the track below, and download it here.
