I always love me a good throwback, and Cold Warps are doing just that for me. The Maritimes seem to be releasing a lot of great punk-rock, and this band is no exception.
The 7″ vinyl (my copy was a very pleasing translucent yellow-green colour!) has two songs. The A-side is called “Slime” and it characterizes the raw and rough sound of this band. It’s got lots of fuzzy guitar and some punk vocals reminiscent of the early state of the genre, back when it began.
The B-side is “Dream Creepin'” which is just as fun. It’s a much more upbeat song characterized by the rocket-fast drumming and faster vocal delivery. It’s definitely a song that can be grooved to, and this song always gets stuck in my head after I play it.
I’d love to hear more from Cold Warps, as their fuzzy, lo-fi style is definitely a well-crafted one.
You can get the Slimer 7″ from Bandcamp (digital or vinyl!).
