Parliament’s Choice October- Gianna Lauren

by Michael

Rarely does there come an album that catches one completely off-guard as Some Move Closer, Some Move On did to me. With previous amazing albums I’ve heard, I’ve usually had some indication of how awesome they would be, like hearing “Lewis Takes Off His Shirt” before finding out Owen Pallett’s Heartland is a fantastic album.

But when I listened to Gianna Lauren’s album I had absolutely no expectations- I didn’t know anything about Lauren or her music. I had never even heard the name before.

So imagine my surprise when I discovered that Some Move Closer, Some Move On is one of the most beautiful albums I’ve heard this year. It is filled to the brim with ambient pop that will pierce your soul. Okay, that sounded a little cheesy but I think I should be making my point.

The music is very finely crafted and controlled- not a single note of any of the eleven songs is wasted. Lauren also possesses a stunning, and at some parts angelic, voice. If you haven’t heard of her by now, it’s about time you did.

To find out more about this, quite simply, amazingly talented artist, you can visit her MySpace or her pretty website.
