Review- “Everything in Everyway” EP- Yukon Blonde

Reviewed by Michael

Despite their name, Yukon Blonde actually hail from Kelowna, B.C. Also confusingly, while this is the band’s debut EP, they have been a band since 2005 under the name AlphaBaby with two EP’s under that name. They have already played with many, many artists such as Ladyhawke, Constantines and Women to name a few.

All confusion aside, this EP shows the potential that this quartet has to offer. One strength that the band has is definitely the vocal harmonies. They add a richness and depth to the music and makes it just that much more enjoyable.

The instrumental part of the songs is great blend of the traditional guitar, bass and percussion sound, and it somehow manages to not be boring.

The best song of this four-track, 16 minute offering is probably “Free Your Mind” which features a catchy hook “Free your heart into your mind”, as well as music that emphasizes the bassline as opposed to the guitar, as is the norm.

The music makes it very evident that these guys are not new to the music scene. These four tracks are incredibly polished, and are a great teaser. It’s a great introductory piece of music and makes me interested in hearing their full length album which is set to be released in February of 2010.

This EP releases October the 6th, the same day they play their CD release party at Toronto’s Horshoe Tavern.
